Peter's House

When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked
his disciples, "Who do people say the Son of Man is?"
They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah;
and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets."
"But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?"
Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the
living God."
Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this
was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven.
And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build
my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will
give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you
bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose
on earth will be loosed in heaven." Matt 16:13-19

"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man
who built his house on the rock.
The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not
fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.
But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man
who built his house on sand.

This is a particular great teaching in as much as it ties in with so many
different scriptures. Here Jesus associates the 'one who listens and does'
what He has said as a wise man. Wise men build their houses on a solid
foundation, such as stone or rock, to give it stoutness to withstand the
elements coming against it. He then goes on to describe the foolish one,
as the one that hears the same message as the wise, but disregards it in
as much as NOT doing what said. The same circumstances, situations, and
trials come against it as the wise man's house; only difference is without
the stoutness of a sure foundation the house falls. This also goes hand in
hand explaining James 1:22-25, " Do not merely listen to the word, and so
deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but
does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror
and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he
looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives
freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but
doing it--he will be blessed in what he does."
When Peter made the glorious declaration, "You are the Christ, the Son of
the living God.", Jesus ackowledged His Father's revelation to Peter, and
it is on that foundation, the rock of revelation, not the Peter 'the rock'
that Peter's House is built.
